CST worked on the design and fabrication of the scoreboard for the American Airlines Arena project for the new state of the art sports facility in Miami, Florida. The scoreboard support structure comprises of two concentric geodesic spheres. There are 145 4″ aluminum roll-formed tubes, which are structurally connected to the inner and outer sphere.

This intricate design forms the primary structural system for the scoreboard’s sign components and specialty lighting. The inner sphere is comprised of welded plates for structural stability. The outer sphere was developed using struts that meet at hubs with concentric sleeves for supporting the roll-formed pipes. The approximately 14′ x 9′ replay boards are supported by 7 roll-formed pipes each.

The statistics and advertising boards are similarly supported by two or three roll-formed pipes, each depending on the board location. Included is the myriad of roll-formed pipes that are architectural only and accomplish the desired “sun-ray” form for the scoreboard.
