The Conservatek Team has developed the SUN*DOME system as a major step toward truly operable stadium design that is both simple and cost effective. The SUN*DOME system was initially designed under contract with DAF/INDAL Corporation and has since been further developed.

The plan is for a 700′ clear-span stadium enclosure constructed of lightweight aluminum Star*Dome framework in two or three overlapping sections or six retractable sections. The system is designed for either membrane or aluminum panel cladding. It has been completely engineered to weigh less than 10 psf of surface area. This keeps the weight of a 700′ clear span at less than 5 million pounds. A very easily moveable mass – much superior to some of the existing mobile retractable stadium roofs.

A second alternative for an even lower cost developed to DAF/INDAL was a retractable stadium roof in which only the cladding retracted on tracks and the complete frame stayed in place.
