Spaceship Earth at Epcot is called the golf ball in the sky. On this project, CST’s expertise is unseen as CST provided was the expertise in geometry and dome subtlety to develop the steel details, shop drawings and provide site assembly supervision as a subcontractor to Tampa Steel.

The geometry is a 162′ diameter dome, eight frequency, supported by six columns. The internal framework consists of 8″, 10″ and 12″ I-beams with gusset hubs that support the exciting exterior aluminum panels which are only decorative and sit 18″ outside the internal framework.
