The new Marine Biology Research Building at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL features 2 STAR*FORM tension structures and 56 structural membrane shade panels. The dual 30′ X 30′ hypar membrane structures provide shaded areas over the raised second floor exterior plaza area.
The 56 membrane solar panels provide shade for the research officer along the two South faces of the L-shaped building. Both of the membrane structures suggest the concept of nautical sails to match the marine look of the overall building theme.
