CST was asked to design an overhead entrance canopy that would function as a security check point at this defense contractor’s facility in Fort Worth, Texas. The footprint of the canopy is a trapezoid that narrows from one side to the other.

This allowed the client to maximize the space below for incoming vehicles while minimizing the same for the outgoing traffic. CST helped reduce overall costs by engineering a clear-span solution for the entire structure, including the 170′ tapered edge.

The design includes top and bottom aluminum panels and a perimeter aluminum enclosure that will effectively hide the structure from view. A major concern of the architect/owner was to design a structure that would span 135′ between the series of concrete buttresses that elevate the low-profile vaulted structure off the ground. The entire structure was built on the ground and lifted into place with the use of a crane.
