Overview
Bringing Integrity to the Potable Water Market
CST is the world’s largest manufacturer of both storage tanks and domes, with the design and manufacture of above ground storage tanks making up a large portion of the potable water tanks produced. With such world-renowned brands as AQUASTORE and TecTank™ (formerly Columbian Steel Tank Company™, Peabody TecTank, and Columbian TecTank®) tanks, and OptiDome® aluminum dome roofs, CST’s customers not only get the quality and backing of the world’s largest factory coated tank manufacturer, they get the highest quality integrated solution. But our integrated solutions go beyond just dome covers to include knuckle roofs, sloped decks, and trough deck covers.
Lowest Life Cycle Costs
CST’s AQUASTORE glass-fused-to-steel (enamel) tanks and silos offer the lowest total life cycle cost due to their good upfront value, ultra-low maintenance costs, and long tank life expectancy. Long-term cost savings are achieved because AQUASTORE tanks are not painted, but made from glass being fused to steel. Therefore there are no costly maintenance repainting expenses to be incurred throughout the life of the tank.
Alternatively, CST’s TecTank epoxy coated tanks are coated using our proprietary OptiBond™ coating process. We apply our epoxy coatings in a factory-controlled environment under strict process controls and without environmental influences which results in a coating unobtainable with field application.
Top-Down Construction
- The top-down construction of AQUASTORE and TecTank tanks means that these types of tanks are constructed in the safest way possible with no requirements for the use of scaffolding and high-level work. The tanks upper ring and roof are constructed first and then the whole tank is jacked up to accommodate the construction of each successive ring. Once the final ring is assembled, the tank is lowered onto the starter/foundation ring and the tank is ready. Construction at ground level also boosts construction productivity since there is no scaffolding to erect and move.
Expandable
AQUASTORE and TecTank above ground water storage tanks are easily expanded which equates to future time and cost savings over erecting of additional new tanks to meet growing demands. When tanks are expanded they need to have additional stronger rings added to the bottom of the tank where the additional head pressure must be met. Since the last panels assembled on AQUASTORE and TecTank tanks are on the bottom, the tank can be easily jacked back up from the bottom and the new rings added without changing the rest of the tank. This is most easily accomplished when the original foundation is designed for future growth. In contrast, tanks that are built from the bottom up where the last ring erected is on the top may require extensive rework to add additional rings to the bottom.
Construction in Remote and Sensitive Environments
- CST’s top-down construction method using bottom-up jacks does not require cranes and scaffolding so the overall construction footprint can be limited to as small as 4 feet beyond the foundation of the tank. The smaller size of the panels and the ability to transport the panels to the site and assembled them on the tank without the use of cranes means that CST tanks can be constructed in remote locations, on rocky knolls and in ecologically fragile areas where welded and concrete tanks cannot.
Highest Quality Coatings
Whether choosing AQUASTORE glass-fused-to-steel or TecTank epoxy coating applied using CST’s proprietary OptiBond process, our customers can count on getting the best coating possible from CST. Since all our coatings are applied in factory-controlled environments under strict process control criteria, the quality and schedule for coating application are not restricted by the weather at the construction site having to meet specific requirements.
Fast Delivery Times
- Design of CST tanks is quick and efficient using state-of-the-art design tools and our large capacity manufacturing facilities can often accommodate “fast track” orders. Couple these fast manufacturing capabilities with the fast tank construction times and virtual lack of weather delays, and CST can construct a tank in up to 1/3 the time of field welded and concrete tanks. While we do not encourage our customers to wait until the last minute to order a tank, CST can usually accommodate such instances when other, smaller companies do not have the processes and capacity to design, manufacture, and construct a tank in less than nine weeks when necessary.
Products
- AQUASTORE®- AQUASTORE glass-fused-to-steel tanks are the most recommended water tank in rural water districts where overall cost, dependability, and water quality are important attributes of water storage tanks. Larger tanks for urban use are also popular.
- TecTank- TecTank factory-coated epoxy tanks are the premier epoxy tanks for municipal and industrial water applications where quality is important but upfront cost plays a more important factor in the tank section.
- Galvanized Tanks- CST’s galvanized bolted tanks fill an important niche in the overall water storage tank selection portfolio providing a very low upfront cost option, long-term durability and environmental degradation are less important factors.
- Aluminum Domes- CST Covers’ aluminum geodesic domes are the world’s leading domes for potable water storage tanks of all types. They are precision manufactured, easily assembled, and relatively maintenance-free.
- Steel Covers and Roofs- CST’s coated steel and glass-fused-to-steel tank covers offer alternatives to aluminum domes for smaller diameter tanks.

An Innovative Cover Solution Extends Reservoir Life
Styles come and go, and sometimes reappear. Take hats, for example. What’s fashionable in the 60s went out in the 70s but may come back a few decades later. However, when it comes to municipal water facilities, yesterday’s model is gone for good, replaced by a more contemporary, sustainable design.
